Hitachi Travelstar Read Write Head Malfunctions
Datatrack Labs has recently seen an increase of Hitachi Travelstar hard drives being sent for analysis. The problem has been identified as a weakening of at least one read/write head as a result of unreadable sectors on the disk surface or possibly other external factors such as impact damage or other misuse. Datatrack Labs are now able to de-pop these heads without opening the hard drive in their clean room environment and are able to read all available data with the functioning read/write heads. This increases the chances of a successful recovery and also keeps the cost down to a minimum. Typical Recovery costs range from £90.
